New Directions Counseling
Associates provides a counseling process that involves individual
or family counseling on a weekly basis, along with a parent/guardian
education component. Each session has a specific purpose in the
structured process of guiding an adolescent, young adult or adult
toward abstinence and recovery. We recognize that almost all
adolescents begin without the motivation to change. Our first
task is to help people develop a greater recognition of the consequences
of their chemical use, and to support the growing motivation
to change.
The Family
Education Program
Experience shows that recovery will
be long lasting only if changes continue to be made in several
key areas in an adolescent's or young adults life. Such changes
will necessitate a review of attitudes, feelings and behaviors,
and that is where the parents come in.
The Family Education Program is structured
to help parents/guardians understand their crucial role in the
successful treatment of adolescent chemical abuse. Participation
in this part of the program is essential. We also support and
encourage parental awareness and growth through recommended readings
and referrals to parent support groups in the community.
